Huge Snowstorm Hits City of Danville

On Sunday, December 9, 2018, Danville received more than 12" of snow in 24 hours, with some areas reporting as much as 16" of snow. This is the largest snow fall in the city since 1996.

Though Danville Public Works began clearing streets almost immediately after snow began accumulating, Danville Life Saving Crew (DLSC) had to reach patients on neighborhood streets that had not been touched.

"We work together with the Danville Fire Department on a daily basis," Tommy Barber, DLSC member, said. "We truly appreciate them clearing a path for us to reach residents that were stuck during the snowstorm. They clear a path in and a path out."

While DLSC provided patient care to a local resident inside of their home, Danville Fire Department began clearing a path for the stretcher to roll down the driveway. Firefighters quickly used snow shovels to remove snow for better access to the ambulance. This teamwork is essential to providing the best possible care to Danville residents and visitors.

By Tuesday, December 11, Public Works finished clearing all residential streets in Danville by 7 a.m. However, as snow melts during the day and refreezes at night, black ice and compact snow are major travel hazards. DLSC encourages residents and visitors to drive cautiously until all snow and ice melts.
