Training

The Danville Life Saving Crew's training is provided by the Danville Area Training Center at 630 Randolph Street in Danville, VA. For more information on classes and to register, please visit www.datc.training.

The Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED course provides first responders with training in basic first aid and CPR AED procedures, including the first aid skills recommended by OSHA, in a format that can be delivered in a single day. Upon completion of this course, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card that is valid for two years.

To improve survival rates during mass emergencies, the Danville Area Training Center (DATC) is now offering “Stop the Bleed” first aid training. This one-hour course will cover patient assessment, wound care, types of bleeding, penetrating trauma, tourniquets, wound packing and wrapping. Afterwards, citizens will be more prepared to respond to penetrating injuries, such as a gunshot or knife wound, before emergency medical services arrive.

Classroom attendance must remain at 85% or more for class completion. 48 hours of hospital clinical hours and 48 hours of prehospital clinical time are also required for the class. Prerequisites for the AEMT Class are a valid CPR card (start of class and certification test). You also must be 18 years old on or before the start date of the class. There are also requirements that must be met to complete the 48 hours of hospital clinical time.

By the end of the academy, students will obtain certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Vehicle Operations Class, Traffic Incident Management Class, Mass Casualty I&II, Vehicle Rescue Awareness & Operations, and Emergency Medical Technician. Afterwards, graduates will be able to work or volunteer at any EMS agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia with completed certifications.

Earn while you learn! During the Academy you will complete the EMT Class, Emergency Vehicle Operations Class (EVOC), Vehicle Rescue Awareness (VRA), CPR, Traffic Incident Management (TIMS), Mass Casualty I & II, and NIMS. The Academy requires an interview prior to being accepted into the class.
