DLSC Recognizes Extraordinary Members

The Danville Life Saving Crew recognized its 2017-2018 officers and honored extraordinary crew members at the 72nd Annual Installation Banquet on Friday, June 30. The banquet began at 7 p.m. at the Danville Golf Club.

"To be the best, we have to find the best people and provide the best training," Tommy Pruett, executive director, said.

The Danville Life Saving Crew began in 1944 when 15 men agreed to become members of the Crew and created the foundation for the future of the organization. Today, over 100 men and women volunteer to operate from stations located on Christopher Lane, Maplewood Street and Randolph Street. Each member is trained at DLSC's sister agency, the state of the art Danville Area Training Center.

Last year, Crew members ran 7,348 calls in the service area. With so many opportunities to care for the community, several Crew members stood out for serving above and beyond the requirements. Members were recognized for excellence in EMS Education, Basic life Support, Advanced Life Support and Auxiliary Services.

The Raymond C. McNeely Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award a member can receive, was given to John Sherrill. This award was created for a member who has served at least seven years on the Crew and has shown extraordinary achievements in training or running calls. John has donated countless hours to DLSC and is a licensed paramedic, the highest certification an EMT can earn.

DLSC was also pleased to install its new officers during the banquet. The 2017-2018 officers include: Chief Robbie Woodall, Deputy Chief Keister Whitt, Assistant Deputy Chief Michael Brandon, Assistant Deputy Chief Wayne Caldwell, Secretary John Geyer, Communications Captain Chris Elliott, Recruitment/Retention Captain April Campbell, Maintenance Captain Nick Sapounakes, Special Ops Captain Scott Campbell, Training Captain Brian Conner, Supply Captain Marilyn Basden, Building and Grounds Captain Bobby Pleasant and Oxygen Captain Darlene Walker.
