Brief History
The volunteer Rescue Squad movement was born in Roanoke Virginia in 1927. As the movement spread and evolved, it caught the attention of a group of men in Danville Virginia in 1944. These men put together a plan, formed a corporation in 1945 and named it the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc. Today’s Crew is the continued evolution of that idea, sparked in 1927 and fanned in 1945.

Volunteers continue to promote this idea throughout Virginia and the United States. The Danville Life Saving Crew is comprised of dedicated men and women who strive to make a difference in the lives of the members of our community. Although the members come from all walks of life, we share one common goal: To render Emergency pre-hospital care to the sick and injured, and perform rescue operations on a continuous basis, as needed, 24 hours a day, 365/366 days a year.

Our trained, dedicated volunteers provide these services to our community without charge. All donations and memorials made to the Crew are returned to the community by way of more training and equipment.
