Stress, which causes a feeling of emotional or physical tension, can have a negative effect on your health. Stress can cause feelings of frustration, anger or nervousness due to a challenge or demand.

Stress can also cause anxiety which creates an intense and persistent worry or fear about everyday situations. Anxiety may cause a fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating or exhaustion.

To help prevent negative health effects due to stress, we encourage you to follow these simple tips:

  • Get enough sleep and rest to recharge your battery

  • Make time for hobbies, interests and relaxation

  • Learn to manage your time more effectively

  • Set limits appropriately and learn to say no to stressful situations

  • Seek treatment from a psychologist or mental health professional if you need it

A few additional ways to help reduce stress include:

  • Exercise to help release endorphins

  • Reduce caffeine intake for less stimulation

  • Spend time with family and friends to create a sense of belonging and self-worth

  • Listen to soothing music for relaxation

If you are ever in need of emergency medical assistance, dial 911 immediately.
