In 2018, Danville Life Saving Crew (DLSC) became the first EMS agency dispatched to all 911 calls in the City of Danville. This created a large increase in emergency calls, resulting in a 22% increase in calls from 2017.
"We've been preparing for this increase in calls," Bryan Fox, DLSC's assistant executive director, said, "We have prepared our volunteers and hired additional staff as needed. We've also offered more training this year to help prepare everyone."
During the month of December, DLSC answered 971 emergency calls, bringing the grand total of 2018 to 9,464 calls. In comparison, DLSC answered 7,754 calls in 2017.
During 2018, DLSC responded to the following calls: 573 Motor Vehicle Crashes, 127 Assaults, 39 Fire Standbys, 8,387 Medical Emergencies, 59 Medical Standbys, 250 Air Transports, and 29 Others. DLSC expects to answer more than 11,000 calls in 2019.
