Halloween Safety Tips

This Halloween, kids will fill the sidewalks and church parking lots dressed in festive costumes for trick-or-treating. This is an exciting time for children, but also an important time for adults to be extra observant and cautious.

Drivers, follow these tips to help keep children safe as they trick-or-treat:

  • Actively watch for kids trick-or-treating in residential areas and churches

  • Drive cautiously and do not speed, especially in residential areas

  • Leave several minutes early to account for a longer commute between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Parents or Guardians, follow these tips to help keep children safe:

  • Children under the age of 12 should never be left alone to trick-or-treat

  • Keep an eye on children to ensure their safety

  • Add reflective tape to costumes or have kids carry glow sticks so that drivers can see them

  • Only walk in well lit areas and never through alleys or across lawns

  • Check all treats to make sure they are sealed

  • Throw away any open or torn packages

If a medical emergency occurs, dial 9-1-1 so that EMS can be dispatched. Danville Life Saving Crew EMTs are on duty 24 hours a day and are prepared to respond to any type of emergency.
